Bernie sleeping with a Boer kid!
The Anatolian Shepherd is from Turkey. Robert Gallard brought the first two Anatolians to the U.S.
These dogs are big, burley and powerful. In spite of their size they have decidedly lion-like grace, with very good agility. The Anatolian has proven to be a great livestock protector and a home guardian.
We drove to Jerome, Idaho in 2004 to acquire Bernie our male. He was 5 months old. He is a great dog to have watching our goat herd. But he didn’t start out so great. He thought the goats were other puppies and that they wanted to play with him. He dug holes in the barn and was constantly being put on the chain in the middle of the barn, so as not to harass the pregnant does. As he matured he became gentler with the goats. At two years old he was able to be with the goats all the time.
We acquired Cloe in 2006 and she spent her first 5 months in the house with us. She never wet on the floor and always told us when she needed to do her duty. She traveled well in the car, truck or van and became a great companion. Today she is outside all the time and hangs out with the bucks. She is still in the puppy stage and so needs to be watched so she behaves herself. We love our dogs and they work well with us and the goats.
We feed Black Gold Dog food as well as an ample supply of Goat Milk.
Bernie patrols 10 acres and the main herd of goats.
Cloe patrols 2 acres with the bucks.

Bernie is our Registered Anatolian male.

Cloe is our Registered Anatolian female.
Born November 2005
Both dogs are working on our farm.
